The humble shed forms the starting point for a series of art classes beginning next Wednesday (16 November) in Back.
Artist Ishbel Murray is undertaking a Culture Collective commission, partnered by An Lanntair and Taigh Chearsabhàigh as well as by arts organisations in Orkney and Shetland.
Inspired by an element of nearly every domestic residence, the shed, her project will explore her immediate environment and the people and places that impact on her life and experience as an islander from a Gaelic speaking community.
Appropriately, the venue Ishbel has chosen is the Loch a Tuath community hut where, for 16 weeks, she’ll be encouraging local people to explore their own artistic skills with free, step-by-step drawing classes, all materials supplied.
Along with funders Creative Scotland, she hopes the series of classes will get people involved in creative activities that support health and well-being.
