Uig is to host a brand new Storytelling Festival, including appearances by renowned singer, actor, writer and broadcaster Dolina Maclennan and leading Hebridean storytellers Ian Stephen and Magaidh Smith.

Fèill Seanchais Sgìre Ùige will take place at Uig Community Centre on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October, with events in both Gaelic and English.

It is programmed and presented by Uig-based theatre and film-maker Laura Cameron-Lewis, who is currently carrying out a PHD in magic and storytelling as well as working as Iomairt Oifigear for CnaG.

Laura said: “This new festival is a celebration of our shared traditions and new creative ventures in storytelling. There will be English translation available for Gaelic performances and events including theatrical and musical storytelling performances, storytelling workshops for children and adults, outdoor performances and walks, and ceilidh settings. We are delighted to present performances by Ian Stephen and Magaidh Smith, with special appearance by Lewis legends Dolina MacLennan, Malcolm MacLean and special guests including Garrabost Jaya, Sam Haddow and Siadar born poet, Padraig MacAoidh.”

The festival will also include film screenings of work by storytellers and local children, children’s workshops run by Laura Cameron-Lewis, and workshops for adults by local seanachaidh, Magaidh Smith.

Tickets are available on the door on a ‘pay what you can’ basis, and there will be food available from Uig catering company the Raider Trailer.

The festival is presented by Studio Fir Chlis in partnership with CnaG, Uig Community Centre Association, and the Scottish International Storytelling Festival; it is funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Fèisean nan Gàidheal. It will be followed by a programme of cèilidh events in Uig across the winter.
