The first rum to be distilled in the Western Isles has hit the road at speed, with an appearance at one of Formula One’s iconic race events.

Isle of Barra Distillers launched their Island Dark Rum at midsummer and were at the 200th Royal Highland Show in June, offering samples and selling some of the first bottles to the discerning Highland audience.

But on Saturday (2 July) the wishes of at least one of the distillers came true, with Island Dark Rum featuring in the hospitality tent at Silverstone racetrack for the Formula One British Grand Prix.

Isle of Barra Distillers posted yesterday: “Our Island Dark Rum has made it to Silverstone this weekend for the Formula One and it has landed in Ignition Club Hospitality.

“We know this will put a smile of one of our team members and head distiller as not only is he a huge Formula One fan but now the rum he has crafted is there too.

“A special moment to see our newly released rum on offer at such a prestigious event and putting Barra on the map.”

Island Dark Rum is described as: “Carrying the essence of our maritime nature, bringing Barra to the fore, home and away. Infused in our Outer Hebridean Island with carrageen seaweed, coconut, cardamom and orange, among a host of other botanicals.”

It’s available online via the distillers’ shop at https://isleofbarradistillers.com/collections/isle-of-barra-distillers-shop and at stockists through the Western Isles.
