Plastic harvested from a Barra shore is to be recycled to make bespoke fittings for campervans, thanks to a link-up with a Benbecula start-up business.

The shore clean-up at Bagh nan Clach on Saturday (2 July) was organised by Barra and Vatersay outdoor ranger service, and saw a good turnout of volunteers at the bay below Dun Scurrival from 11am.

Their harvest of debris included sea-borne fishing rope, metal and other debris, as well as numerous plastic items.

Balivanich-based start-up Studio Vans Ltd, which launched in 2020 with the support of Business Gateway, are taking the plastic collected to make fittings for their bespoke campervan conversion kits, using modules made from recycled materials.
