Stòras Uibhist has appointed Alana Macinnes as Flora Macdonald officer to organise a range of events to celebrate the Uist heroine’s 300th birthday.

The historic milestone will see several activities to mark the life and time of the woman who famously helped Prince Charles Edward Stuart - 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' - to safety in 1746 after his forces' crushing defeat at the Battle of Culloden which marked the effective end of the Stuart dynasty's 50-year struggle to regain the throne of Great Britain.

Stòras Uibhist obtained grant funding from Community Land Scotland to fill the post.

Alana is from South Uist and an accomplished professional piper that has performed internationally and at Celtic Connections.
