Wildly varying weather may be the new normal as today (Thursday 26 May) looks set to be particularly aggravating for many.
The website convectiveweather.com has issued a forecast of lightning, sudden gusts of wind and hail, especially over Lewis and Orkney, through this afternoon.
They say that during the day there’s a chance that active storm cells could develop, bringing sporadic lightning in unpredictable places, accompanied by clusters of heavy showers over Lewis, Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland during the late afternoon and early evening.
The strongest cells could produce wind gusts of 50-60mph, locally higher on exposed coasts, and hail perhaps as large as 1cm in diameter.
