A big shake-up is under way soon at Broadbay medical practice in Stornoway to improve telephone links with its users.

The practice will be closed for telephone calls on Tuesday 31 May 2022 in the afternoon from 13.00 onwards.

This is to enable a switchover to a different phone system.

An emergency number (01851 704250) will be in use that afternoon, and the practices asks that patients only phone when they require urgent medical attention.

With fewer Covid restrictions in place, patients can also attend in person if needed.

The practice admits that in recent months patients have been frustrated about getting through to the practice on the telephone.  This was because of "a phone upgrade that went wrong."

Stephan Smit, Practice Manager, said, “I want to apologise to patients for the difficulties they had in getting through to the practice on the phone.

"As a result, we have now terminated the contract with our current supplier and will be moving to a new supplier on the 31st of May.

"I am confident that the new system, widely in use in GP practices, will enable us to provide the reliable access that our patients expect of us.”
