The sounds of the 1980s will form the backdrop for this year’s 50th reunion, as the school students of yesteryear get together to relive some of their memories.

The reunion is due to be held at Stornoway Golf Club on Friday and Saturday 10 and 11 June, offering the chance for some of those who have travelled far since they were school-leavers to recount their adventures.

Ally Macleod, one of the organising volunteers, said: “Most people from our year went away to college or offshore and less than half the year stayed on the island afterwards.

“There are people all over the world – in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore, but we know at least one has booked flights to come back from Perth, Australia and we’re hoping to see a good few more make the journey home.

“Our 40th reunion was very well attended and a great event, with well over 100 people there, so we’re hoping for at least 50 this time round.”

As well as the pleasure of seeing old friends, the weekend offers a Friday night dinner, followed by an evening of DJ and recorded music to bring the memories rolling back.

The mix-tape requests so far include the B52s, Womack and Womack, Happy Mondays and Primal Scream.

There’s still time to add to that list – and to suggest some daytime activity on Saturday 11 before another evening gathering with music at the Golf Club, which has been offered as a venue free of charge.
