Roads throughout the islands are going become a torrent of tar and stones again as the annual ritual of 'surface- dressing' gets under way.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar says it will be commencing the annual surface dressing programme of works on Monday May 9 for approximately six to eight weeks across the Western Isles.
Works will commence in the Harris area for one week before operations move to Uist and Barra for three weeks, then returning to Lewis.
Traffic management and warning signs will be in place and the travelling public are asked to take heed of the warnings and temporary speed limits.
All works are dry weather dependent and are subject to delays.
Works locations include parts of the A859 at the Clisham, Scarista, and Cameron Terrace; C78 Carragreich and Berneray; five sections of the A865 in Uist; four sections of the A888 in Barra; B8011 Uig Bends; A858 at Brue; Cross Skigersta area Ness; A857 Barvas Moor and Laxdale School; B895 Coll and Gress.
Drivers should allow additional time for travelling whilst works are in these areas to allow for expected delays.
