Delayed hospital discharges have soared in the Western Isles
Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron says rising numbers of delayed discharges from local hospitals is a worrying sign of the pressure the NHS is under.
Between November 2020 and November 2021 the numbers of bed days lost in the NHS Western Isles region rose from 189 to 657, a 247% increase.
Mr Cameron said: ““While we all understand that the Covid pandemic has had a significant impact, it’s worrying that ministers have not come up with a strategy to tackle this problem.
“People need to get back home from hospital so they can recuperate, and in order to free up beds for other people who require treatment.
“The SNP-Green coalition must ensure that the NHS now gets the resources it needs because these worrying figures are a sign of a service under severe stress.”
