Winter conditions over the next few days will provide the ideal chance for a new fleet of characters to get out and about around Harris.
A competition run in 2020 by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar asked pupils from Sir E Scott School to suggest names for six Harris gritters.
Now the fleet has been named and signwritten, with Stuart Sutherland at Graphite signs kindly donating and applying the names, ready to be seen on the Harris Roads for the 2021/22 winter season.
Sleet & Diesel, Slushkentyre, Brrr E Scott, Slushinish, Scar-ice-ta and Chlear mi’n Tir will join the CNES Lewis Gritters, Sno-vid 19, Sno Bad Cove, Sno Bother to us and Benny's Baby treating the roads network along with gritting contractors throughout the Western Isles.
The Comhairle joins Police Scotland and HM Coastguard Agency in asking everyone to be careful on the roads and coasts, with wintry weather expected over the next few days.
