Stornoway butchers Charles M Macleod and the Scottish Salmon Company have both had a listing confirming their status as producers of Great British Food, in the GBF food awards 2021
The award-winners in the Great British Food magazine’s annual competition were announced last week (Tuesday 16 November) and are now publicly available in an online directory at https://ace-mags.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/gbf/Great-British-Food-Awards-2021/index.html
The Great British Food awards recognise quality and provenance in the food industry and judges named Charlie Barleys the best regional food producer in Scotland, especially highlighting the company’s use of local ingredients and strong relationships with suppliers.
Judge Shaun Rankin also gave Charlie Barley’s Stornoway black pudding a highly commended award in the category of sausages, bacon and black pudding. He said the marag was “a fantastic product with a smooth texture, perfect seasoning and a great aftertaste.”
Winner in the smoked fish and seafood category was Native Hebridean smoked salmon from the Scottish Salmon Company.
Judge Jack Stein said: “There were some strong contenders for the number one slot, but when it came down to it this just had the best flavours. For me, this was the perfect smoked salmon.”
Both companies were also listed among the ‘stand-out producers’ in the full list of awards.
