Families and individuals who need some help with food supplies this winter can get extra help from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and from Eilean Siar Foodbank.

The Comhairle yesterday (Monday 22 November) announced the availability of Foodbank boxes, which are free to collect from the Comhairle office on James Street, in the corridor on the first floor.

They said on Twitter: "Foodbank boxes are available to collect from the Comhairle office on James Street in the corridor on the first floor.  (Not in the Learning Shop as we are not in just now)."

And they added: "These are available for people to collect during office hours (there are a number of other tenants), no need to speak to anyone, no paperwork."

Meanwhile Eilean Siar Foodbank, which now operates from Stornoway Golf Club, is looking for volunteers to help during their opening hours in the run-up to Christmas.

They are open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 11am and 2pm, and would like to hear from anyone who has a few hours to spare, by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
