The Isle of Harris coastguard rescue team was called out at 3am today (Sunday 21 November) after police and ambulance crews called for help with a badly injured man.

The 25-year-old man had fallen on rocks near Horgabost and had sustained what appeared to be spinal injuries, needing extremely careful handling to avoid further injury.

Stornoway Coastguard operations centre responded to a call from Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance to assist, tasking the Harris crew and the CRT team from Stornoway.

The Harris team were able to help by immobilising the man and lifting him from his position, some distance from the road, to the waiting ambulance.

He was then taken onwards to Western Isles Hospital for further medical attentions.

Harris CRT were stood down and the Stornoway team turned back before reaching the team, with the incident closed around 5am today.
