Three days of planned power outages are to affect different areas of Lewis and Harris next week, according to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).
The company is taking advantage of extra mainland engineering staff deployed on the islands to get as much preparatory work as possible completed, ahead of winter weather.
The work done in each area will include checking connections and replacing equipment, to winter-proof and reinforce the network. They say that refurbishment and upgrade work on the overhead electricity network should minimise future interruptions to supply.
Major outages will affect the whole of the Laxay and South Lochs area between 9am and 5pm on Tuesday 14 September.
The whole of Scalpay will be without power between 9am and 5pm on Wednesday 15 and on Thursday 16 September it’s the turn of the Point district, where power will be switched off from Knock and Aignish outwards between 9am and 5pm.
All affected customers should have received letters advising them of the planned outages and SSEN promises that the power will be switched off for the shortest time necessary, apologising for the inconvenience to customers.
