As part of the renovation and change of use of the former Murdo Maclean properties on Cromwell Street and Kenneth Street, Stornoway, a well-known landmark disappeared today (Thursday July 22).

This was the former premises of the Stornoway Religious Bookshop at 18B Kenneth Street which had been slated for demolition after WIFIIS Ltd  applied for planning permission last summer to renovate and change the use of the former Murdo Maclean’s shop at 25-27 Cromwell Street.

The work, as described in the planning application, is to create one ground floor retail unit, a restaurant/café and five one-bedroom flats – and would also include the demolition of 18B Kenneth Street.

Photographers managed to catch a glimpse or two before the building vanished forever. Below is one from Twitter by John Maher of Flying Monk Photography in south Harris

And passing today was Tim Durbin, manager of the crown Post Office branch on Francis Street, who grabbed this momentary image…

And later it looked like this for welovestornoway.com…
