Maintenance and upgrade work on the power supply for the Isles of Barra and Vatersay is going on throughout this week, with householders and businesses notified of a series of planned switch-offs.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have additional crew members from Uist and Stornoway joining the two resident Barra engineers for the works, which include replacement of poles for the overhead power supply.
Today (Wednesday 16 June) 56 customers in the Cleat area have been warned that power could remain off between 9am and 5pm as work is completed in the Greian area.
Yesterday (Tuesday) 68 customers in Vatersay and Ben Tangaval were without power while poles were replaced and a transformer was upgraded.
There’ll be further outages for 15 customers in the Ledaig area tomorrow and for 14 customers in the Allasdale area on Friday.
An SSEN spokesperson said the works were part of the essential maintenance programme and that the engineering team would be working as one squad with branded company vehicles.
They said: “We’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we complete this work to improve the resilience of the network.”
