Eriskay's former school and schoolhouse is being taken over by the local historical society, it was announced yesterday (Wednesday June 2).
On their Facebook Page, the group stated: "Thankfully, after all this time and effort we have fantastic news as Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh have now completed the purchase of the former school and school house on behalf of the community of Eriskay.
"Once funding is secured, our first objective is to develop a permanent exhibition area and adjoining tearoom. As the school is now in community ownership, we are open to suggestions of other services/ideas that could be included in this development for the benefit of our community.
"We are hoping to erect Polytunnels and raised beds soon for the community to rent for vegetable planting etc . If this is something you would be interested in having or getting involved with, please let us know.
"We are still undecided about whether to renovate the school house as it is or to convert it to offices as we have had a few enquiries about renting office space. Your opinion would be very much appreciated.
"Once restrictions are lifted, please come and view the plans in the Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh office."
