Former Comhairle nan Eilean Siar councillor Callum Ian Macmillan has resigned from the Labour Party to stand as a candidate himself in the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary election.

He told them in an email today: "I write to submit my resignation from the Western Isles Labour Party.

"I will be standing as the candidate for the "TIME FOR CHANGE" campaign at the Scottish Elections.

"In this campaign I will be working with people from different parties, beliefs and circumstances.....people that the local Labour and Scottish National Party took for granted and/or forgot.

"Scottish Labour is now far from a party that represents the islands....let alone Scotland."

Callum Ian, who is retired, was for many years a business studies lecturer and commercial director at Lews Castle College.
