Royal Navy explosives experts were in Benbecula today (Monday 8 February) carrying out a controlled explosion of ordnance washed ashore on beaches in South Uist.
Reports came in to Stornoway Coastguard of suspected ordnance on beaches at Howmore on Saturday and at Drimsdale on Sunday.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Benbecula, Lochboisdale and Lochmaddy helped to maintain safety and took photographs to pass details on to the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance team.
The explosives team arrived to deal with the devices on Sunday afternoon, but with failing light, the controlled detonation was deferred until today.
Both devices were safely detonated at Culla Bay in Benbecula this morning (Monday) with CRT crew standing by to maintain public safety.
