A covering of snow and two bright crisp days brought extra enjoyment to many island families – especially in the village of Tong.

Members of Tong Community Hall committee were quick to respond as the first flakes settled last week, setting their community the challenge of filling their Facebook page with snow scenes and snow sculptures.

Villagers duly obliged, and the cheerful photos posted over the weekend of 22 to 24 January offered bright blue skies over landscapes, sledging exploits and creative constructions, from snowcars to snowmen, with a variety of smaller creatures in between.

Among those to win a £10 Argos voucher for their creations were the snowman who stole crickety’s cap, by Morag Maclennan and the NHS snowman from Mairi Mac Morrison (pictured).

Our personal favourites also include Jack and Finn’s family creations, and Donna Mackenzie’s Cailleach Sneachd, also pictured here.
