The Well and The Ark drop-ins have recently reopened at The Shed Project at Martin's Memorial Church in Stornoway.
The Well is open on Wednesdays from 10-4pm. It meets in The Shed which is directly opposite Broadbay Medical Practice on Francis Street.
The Ark meets on Friday’s from 10am-12noon in Martin’s Memorial Hall, which is opposite the Post Office entrance. The Ark is a specific women's meeting whereas The Well is open to all.
Both drop ins are free and everyone is welcome. There’s free tea/coffee, etc. and both initiatives provide a chance to meet with people, play game of pool, and relax in a friendly, welcoming environment.
They are following Government advice regarding COVID 19, and ask that you wear a mask (unless exempt) and practice social distancing. We would love to welcome you back if you’ve been before and are also looking forward to welcoming new faces.
Organisers explain: "As with everyone else during lockdown we had to close The Shed. This meant losing direct contact with some 40-50 individuals who benefitted from the support we provide through The Ark and The Well projects. These are aspects of our work that specifically support those whose lives are affected by alcohol of substance misuse. They also provide a drop in service for people to enjoy the company of others and so find a sense of community. Lockdown has brought profound challenges to us all, and especially to those who as a result of challenges in these areas are knowing a sense of isolation and loneliness. In light of this, and in consultation and partnership with our local Alcohol and Drug Partnership (Western Isles Health Board), we’ve decided to open up both of these aspects of our work."
If you plan on coming to The Well or The Ark please call 704557 so they can manage the numbers of those attending. "We look forward to seeing you and assure you a very warm welcome," they say.
Also meeting for the first time soon, is a Western Isles support group for those bereaved by suicide which will hold a session in the Tonga Suite at the Caladh Inn on Wednesday February 10, starting at 7pm.
