Leverhulme Community Hub has today (Tuesday 10 November) announced the appointment of their new project officer, Lucy Duff.
Lucy, who lives in Leverburgh with her partner Kieran and their baby boy, will take up her new position this week.
During her six months initial contract, she will at first be working from home, with a move to the Hub building planned when it's ready for occupation.
A statement from the board today said: “Please join us in offering her a warm Hearach welcome. As a board, we are especially excited to now call ourselves employers as well as having some dedicated assistance with the project after five years of entirely voluntary contributions!”
The Leverhulme Community Hub was formed in 2018 to look into purchasing the old block of Leverhulme Memorial School. It is hoped the building will become a multi-purpose facility, breathing new life into the South Harris Community.
In September the board learnt that they had been awarded £41,967 from the Scottish Land Fund to enable the old primary building at Leverhulme Memorial School to be bought by the community. The remaining money is paying for repair works and the project worker post.
