The weather did all it could to dampen spirits, but nothing could beat the determination of Stornoway Rugby Club seniors team as they pulled off a hard-fought win yesterday (Saturday January 12th)

The visiting rivals were Huntly RFC and the two teams clashed in the Tennents Caledonia North Division 3. In the last match of 2018, Stornoway were defeated 7-31 away to Aberdeenshire RFC in a game that they felt could have been won, so they were ready for a good result and the  final score of 20-7 was highly satisfying.

There were first-half tries for Innes Macuish and Darren Beattie, both converted by Alan Farrell. Two late second-half penalties from Iain ‘Fish’ Mackinnon sealed the win after a strong fightback by Huntly, giving the islanders a fantastic result from a very young Stornoway side.

Stornoway are at home once again on Saturday January 19th to Gordonians 2nd XV, in a match re-scheduled from November. Kick-off is at 2pm at the Bayhead pitch.
