Some of the ever-changing story of what lies beneath the sand dunes in Vatersay will be investigated at a book event at Búth Bharraigh on Friday evening (28th September).
The Annie Jane was wrecked 165 years ago on Vatersay, with 350 emigrants from Scotland drowned that night. Most of them are buried in a mass grave among the sand dunes.
Allan F. Murray, author of the book 'The Wreck of the Annie Jane', published by Acair, will be explaining what led him to write the book and later discussing and signing the book, with books for sale on the night.
Then guest speaker Calum Watt will give a talk on the coastal erosion that threatens Vatersay’s sand dunes, potentially changing that aspect of the island’s landscape and history for ever.
The event starts at 5pm at Búth Bharraigh and is open to all.
