‘The Flesherin Bard’ Willie John Campbell is having a book of his work published by Stornoway-based Acair.

The company says it “is delighted to publish 'Bàrdachd Uilleam Iain Caimbeul / Poems of Willie John Campbell (Willie Teddy)'.  This bilingual book compiles many of Willie Teddy's most-loved poems, and touches upon a wide variety of subjects.

“This is not just a book for the people of Point, it is one that will inspire all of us who feel a strong sense of loyalty to our language, our culture and our roots,” states retired educationist Matthew MacIver from Portnaguran in his introduction.

“The book has poems and songs that reflect the poet’s own life and by turn the life of the wider part of this close-knit island community.  Love songs, songs that praise his island home, songs of longing and songs that will make you laugh out loud – they are all here, written in Willie John’s very personal style and this book now shares them with a new generation.”

This book will be released at a special ceilidh event at Ionad Stoodie in Knock, Point on Friday 10th August at 7.30pm and all are welcome to attend.

There will be readings, live music, tea, coffee and home baking and the chance to buy the book.
