It’s the end of an era for daytime eating out in south Harris as Skoon Art Cafe will soon become Skoon Gallery and abandon its long-established mixed menu of art and food.
Hosts Andrew and Emma Craig say: “We are coming to the end of our 14th season and we feel the time is right for a change.
“We plan to run winter cafe days as often as we can from November to March each year, but from April 2019 we will only be offering tea/ coffee and scones in the Gallery.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed running the cafe here in Geocrab and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has visited us, worked alongside us and supported us over the years.”
Reacting to the Skoon Gallery Facebook post, customers from down the years expressed their sadness and love for the café.
Fiona Cownie said:” Oh no…we came to you in your first year and have loved eating at Skoon for all the years we've been up in Harris.
“Good luck though, coffee and scones will still be worth the trip.”
David Leishman said: “ We'll miss the cafe stuff (and I'm worried about my brownie withdrawal symptoms.....) but we'll still always visit when we're over and Susan and I wish you all the very best. We have no doubt that you'll continue to have great success!”
Laura Mearns said: “We have been visiting Harris every summer for over 20 years and we love coming to Skoon Art Cafe, one of our favourite highlights of our trip.
“The kids love it too! We look forward to tea & scones next summer and of course Andrew’s wonderful art.”
And Julie Margaret Olley added: “Don't blame you – a lot of work cooking every day, need a change sometimes, we will really miss our wee trips out for salmon and cheese salad and chocolate brownies. And a proper pot of Earl Grey. Good luck with your new change.”
