TIG recently completed four days of training for the local councillors of the Western Isles.

All councillors were invited to attend awareness raising ‘one to one’ appointments with TIG’s CEO and senior managers.  The aim of these short training sessions was to assist councillors in their role by setting out what each department within TIG could do for their constituents. It also provided an opportunity for them to ask questions and provide points of contact for specific issues that their constituents may raise.

Short presentations covered all the main aspects of each department, how they can help and various achievements of the past year.

Attendees included the leader of the Council Roddie Mackay who commented-

'All councillors now have a clear understanding of the range of services and support available from TIG as well as the staff contact details and this should make it easier for councillors to assist constituents. Well done to TIG for undertaking this exercise....anything that helps the people in our communities to access expert advice and assistance is always welcome and these initiatives help the Comhairle and its members to maintain an effective and productive working relationship with TIG.'

Stewart Wilson TIG CEO -

‘The purpose of these training events was to ensure our councillors know who we are and how we can help. We issued a toolkit to each councillor to help them engage more effectively with their constituents and with TIG. We appreciated the support of the Comhairle staff, the Leader of the council and of course the attendance of the councillors themselves. From the very positive feedback we understand they found it extremely beneficial. Our desired outcome is that any resident should be able to benefit from our local, trusted and high quality services. This assistance is just another step to that end’
