Stornoway RNLI lifeboat was called out today (Sunday August 26th) to help a fishing vessel which had lost steering off Shawbost on the west side of Lewis, with one fisherman aboard.
The FV Taobh Siar called Coastguards when they found they were unable to return to Carloway.
Roger & Joy Freeman was launched from Stornoway at 11.30am and two local vessels also went to assist. Coastguard volunteer teams from Ness, Bragar and Breasclete stood by and provided communications support as the Sea Angling Club vessel SYSAC II took the stricken boat in tow and brought her into Carloway.
Once the two were making satisfactory progress towards Carloway, the Stornoway RNLI lifeboat was released from service to return to station.
The lifeboat was alongside, refuelled and ready for service by 1700 hours.
All teams were stood down with the boat's skipper safe and well at 15.30 this afternoon.
