Emergency Services Open Day
Venue: HM Coastguard, Stornoway | City: Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
Come and see all our emergency services: Coastguard Rescue Teams, Stornoway Coastguard Operations Room, Coastguard helicopter, Police, Fire, Ambulance, Airport Fire Service, Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team, RNLI and the Salvation Army.
On Saturday 17th August, from 1pm to 4pm, Stornoway Coastguard Operations Room will be open for the first time since its major refit three years ago, providing an excellent opportunity for the public to view at first hand the latest state-of-the-art technology that contributes to search and rescue – locally, regionally and nationally.
Western Isles Coastguard Rescue Teams will be on hand to demonstrate equipment and procedures and Police, Fire, Ambulance, Airport Fire Service, Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team, RNLI and the Salvation Army are also expected to attend.
The Coastguard helicopter will give a search and rescue demonstration and Pat Bonner, fishing vessel surveyor, will be on hand to offer safety advice to fishermen.
During the afternoon the Coastguard’s secure store will also be open to accept out of date flares and pyrotechnics.
The overall aim of the afternoon is to educate, demonstrate and promote safety messages, as well as provide an entertaining afternoon.
