A one, two, or three year programme giving you the opportunity to gain vocational awards which form a major part of the Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering framework. The Engineering and manufacturing industry is a great career option for up and coming engineers. A large variety of roles and apprenticeships are available in sectors such as shipbuilding, renewable energy, oil and gas, as well as with general Engineering companies. Engineering establishments in the UK report skills gaps at all levels, wages are well above the national average, and they are especially keen to employ female engineers due to the current gender imbalance. All Engineering awards available at Lews Castle College have been developed to meet current industry requirements, and also to allow suitable progression to a higher Engineering qualifications and apprenticeships. If you are practically minded with good technical ability, a career in Engineering through these courses could be a great move for you.
Alasdair Macdonald, Course Leader
I am currently completing the NC level 5 Engineering award and hope to continue with my studies next term on the SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations course. The course is timetabled over three and a half days a week which enables me to work part time, so I can earn and learn at the same time. I really enjoy the mix of practical and theory during workshop and classroom based studies, and it’s satisfying to see my Engineering skills continuously improve. My aim is to complete an Engineering apprenticeship and secure employment in the oil and gas industry, or the renewable sector. I certainly feel I made the right decision to leave school and start college and I would recommend this course to anyone with a keen interest in Engineering.
