Last week, 10th Dec. 2018, Tighean Innse Gall (TIG) hosted members of the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Communities Committee as they took evidence from householders in the Western Isles, regarding Fuel Poverty and how it affects their lives.
With the Scottish Government introducing a Bill incorporating proposed changes to the definition of Fuel Poverty, the committee were keen to understand what impact the Bill, if enacted in its current form, may have in a remote rural setting. The committee were also eager to discover how the Government’s proposed strategy might be delivered and in particular how local and trusted organisations like TIG could assist through the vital work they do.
Mr & Mrs M contacted TIG to enquire about insulation and following survey received a number of recommendations to improve the energy performance of the property along with install timescales. Within days of the initial survey Mr & Mrs M were again contacted by TIG to arrange a start date.
The preferred measure chosen by Mr & Mrs M was room in roof insulation and subsequent to install the couple expressed their appreciation of how the surveyor explained the install workflow step by step, along with offering tailored energy advice on a replacement heating system being installed in the property at the time.
Following Mrs M’s house receiving the insulation measure the EPC moved from band F with a rating of 37 to Band E with a rating of 47.
Mr & Mrs M were delighted with the professionalism shown by TIG during both the survey and install process and commended the local contractors on the high quality of the completed measure along with the level of care shown to their property.
