Stornoway Coastguard rescue helicopter R948 was in action east of Barra last night (Tuesday August 28th) to evacuate a sick passenger.

The cruise ship Magellan had called for assistance just before 11pm, saying that a 73-year-old passenger needed immediate medical evacuation.

The man was airlifted from the cruise ship and flown to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

His condition is not known.
