'Blasasd Fèis Uig' was held in Uig Community Hall on the afternoon of Friday 12th July.

It was run to gauge demand for running a full Children’s Fèis through the medium of Gaelic in the future. And the answer was…a resounding yes!

A total of 31 children of up to 12 years of age attended including the three newest additions, born to the community of Uig this year.

Tutors, Carol Miller, Andrew Yearly, Lisa Reid and Joanne Murray Stewart provided the children with a wide exposure to and experience of vocal, instrumental and artistic opportunities through the medium of Gaelic.

Comments received from participants and parents included:

  • "Fantastic! We want more of this."
  • "I really enjoyed playing the accordian, fiddle and smashing the Harris Tweed against the table as we sang together."
  • "It was brilliant to see Gàidhlig being used so creatively and effectively in our island".

The organisers of Blasad Fès Uig would like thank Fèisean nan Gàidheal, CNAG and Bòrd na Gàidhlig for their outstanding help in organising 'Blasad Fèis Uig'; Uig Community Hall Committee, the tutors for their exceptional contributions on the day and above all, the stars of the day – the children.
