Alasdair Allan MSP is due to visit Lewis Builders Ltd during Living Wage Week on Monday 6th November as they are believed to be the largest company on the islands to join the scheme so far, with over 65 employees.
A Living Wage is independently calculated each year which is usually called the real Living Wage - the UK Government also calculates a Living Wage which is consistently less each year. Each year a separate rate is also calculated for those living in London.
The Living Wage Week is the first week of November each year wherein awareness is raised on the real Living Wage and companies are given an opportunity to publicise their involvement with the Living Wage Accreditation.
Currently the Living wage is £8.25 and the minimum wage currently sits at £7.50 for those over 25 and for those over 21 the minimum wage is £7.05
Calculations for the living Wage in 2017 will be released on Monday 6th November.
