Iain Smith, Joan Forrest, and Sandy Matheson at the launch

The latest Acair publication - 'Saints & Sinners - Tales of Lewis Lives' - was launched at Lews Castle College in Stornoway on Wednesday evening.

The book, written by Iain Smith and Joan Forrest, tells the stories of a number of lives who greatly benefitted from education in the Western Isles at the turn of the last century.

Iain Smith spent most of his full-time career working in the training of teachers and has written and published extensively in the last decade, largely on educational topics.

Joan Forrest has also been variously a teacher in Glasgow schools and a trainer of teachers in the University of Strathclyde.

The book launch was a great success and was live broadcast to a number of other UHI campuses.

Speakers included Professor Frank Rennie, Professor Neil Simco, who spoke from the UHI Centre for History in Dornoch, and former Lord Lieutenant of the Western Isles, Sandy Matheson.

‘Saints & Sinners – Tales of Lewis Lives’ is available in some bookshops and at www.acairbooks.com
