Fundraising for Alzheimer Scotland in Lewis and Harris is really getting into its stride with the approach of Dementia Awareness Week which begins on Monday May 29.
One volunteer in Lewis is even planning to run five half-marathons in six weeks to raise money and awareness.
And they have set up JustGiving pages to assist their fundraising efforts.

One volunteer, David Brown from Shawbost, is planning to walk 18 miles from home to Stornoway on June 3 to join the Memory March being held in Stornoway that day.  You can support him directly or via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/David-Brown203
There he says: “I'm walking 30k from my house in Shawbost to the memory walk in Stornoway, on June 3rd where I will do another 5k walk with a large group of people who are also raising money and awareness.”
Another local volunteer – Murdo Sam Macleod – has his on line link here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Murdo-Sam-Macleod
He says:  “This year I will be running five half marathons to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland Lewis & Harris.
The event details are:
Stornoway Half Marathon – Saturday 27th May 2017
Benbecula Half Marathon – Saturday 3rd June 2017
Isle of Skye Half Marathon – Saturday 10th June 2017
Isle of Barra Half Marathon (Barrathon) – Saturday 1st July 2017
Isle of Harris Half Marathon – Saturday 8th July 2017
“The reason I have chosen to fundraise for Alzheimer Scotland is because I have recently been volunteering at the local Solas day care centre which accommodates people living with dementia in Lewis & Harris, and I now know first-hand how much the fundraised income means to the charity and those who use their services.
“I've been wanting to set myself a running challenge and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so and raise money for a fantastic charity.
“All donations are greatly appreciated!”
