A visitor to Stornoway over the Bank Holiday weekend is the 'MS Midnatsol' cruise ship, which arrived yesterday from Iona.

MS Midnatsol is an ice class 1C ship, equipped with advanced technology that makes her exceptionally well suited for expedition voyages in Antarctica.

The ship sails along the Norwegian coast from May to September, and is part of global explorer sailings during the rest of the year.

The Captain invited members of the Stornoway Port Authority and Cruise Ambassadors onboard for a tour of the cruise ship, and Harbourmaster Tony Morrison presented a plaque to the Captain (see pic below).

He received a plaque from the master of the vessel in return.

Passengers came ashore for guided tours around the Westside and Harris, while others explored Stornoway on foot.

The 'MS Midnatsol' is due to depart tomorrow, when she will head for Kirkwall, in Shetland.
