The Met Office has issued a yellow 'Be Aware' warning of ice for the Western Isles, in place from 6pm tonight until 9am tomorrow

Icy stretches will form on many untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths this evening, overnight and into Friday morning.

In addition wintry showers could give 1-3 cm of snow in places, mainly on higher ground above 150 m, but perhaps to lower levels in the far north of Scotland.

As the more persistent rain, sleet and snow clears on Thursday afternoon and evening, temperatures will fall quickly and untreated surfaces will freeze, with ice forming, especially in areas with snow cover.

Further showers spreading from the west could cause salt wash-off and give further accumulations of snow in places, chiefly on high ground over Scotland.
