Last night, at the Crown Inn in Stornoway, members of the Lewis Carnival Committee presented four charities and two individuals each with a portion of the money raised at the Carnival Midsummer Charity Ball.

The charities who received donations were: Hebridean Men's Cancer Support Group, Autism Eileanan Siar, Lewis & Harris Women's Cancer Support Group and the Gambia Partnership. Each charity received £600 of the total raised.

Carnival King and Queen, Charlie Nicolson and Carol Maclean, each received £250 prize money for winning the brand new Carnival King & Queen competition. The winners were invited to donate their winnings to a charity of their choice, and both winners donated their money to Carol Maclean's fundraising efforts for her friend, Mhairi Maciver.

Chairperson, Janet MacDonald, took a moment to thank the charities for coming along, as well as to thank each committee member for their hard work in organising the charity ball, which managed to raise £3,534. The Crown Inn was also thanked for allowing the committee to use its meeting room, and for providing complimentary drinks and biscuits for everyone attending.

This year's Lewis Carnival will take place on Saturday August 6th
