It's that time of year again, when the Christmas enthusiasts at Maybury Gardens bring us an evening of Christmas joy to celebrate the switching on of their famous Christmas lights.

The event takes place today, and is free, but collection boxes are there to raise money for Bethesda Hospice.

Santa arrived at Maybury Gardens at 1.30pm, and will be there until 7.30pm; mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate are being served all day; face painting will take place until 4pm; live music and carol singing will take place between 5pm and 7pm; and the fireworks display is due at 6.30pm.

Hundreds of selection boxes are at the ready, to be given out by Santa to every child who visits him in his grotto - 100 selection boxes were donated by Tesco for the event.

It is requested that everybody attending today's event parks safely and responsibly, please. It is advised that people park at Sandwick School - less than 10 minutes walk away - or down one side of Constable Road (which connects North Street and Plasterfield).
