An Lanntair is delighted to invite children aged 3+ to Jabuti Puppet Theatre’s Moonbeam on a Cats Ear: Theatre, puppetry and workshops for children, a rare piece of theatre in Gaelic, designed for anyone who loves adventure, excitement, and the rich possibilities of imaginary worlds.

Where does fantasy end, and reality begin? It’s impossible to tell in this exquisite piece of puppet theatre from Jabuti, as we watch a cat and mouse leave the safety of their bedroom to explore the big night sky and steal the low-hanging moon. Perhaps, we think, we simply dreamed it, along with the sleepy crew of the sailing moon boat who saw it all unfurl in the comfort of their silk pyjamas.

This magical interpretation of Marie-Louise Gay’s English/French children’s book Voyage au Clair de Lune has been adapted to include lyrical Gaelic translation by poet Aonghas MacNeacail.

There are still a limited number of places available for children aged 8 – 12 on Monday 10 April for a workshop in which they can explore the endless possibilities of shadow puppetry. The workshops on 11 April for ages 3 + have sold out.

“Moonbeam on a Cat’s Ear is a wonderful creation and a lesson in co-operation and friendship that captivates throughout with small children leaning forward in their seats to drink it all in. It is an ingenious gem aimed at wee ones but a joy for anyone whose inner child still lurks near the surface.”
