A brand new three-part documentary looking back on “the best days of our life” is coming to BBC ALBA.
Part of the popular Trusadh series, Làithean Sgoile, which means School Days, starts on Monday 8th April.
The series is split in into three episodes - An Rùm Beag (the Wee Room), An Rùm Mòr (the Big Room) and An Àrd-Sgoil (High School).
The light-hearted programmes hear from former students from over 20 schools across Scotland with a particular focus on the Western Isles.
The pupils from yesteryear recall the treacherous journeys, the best (and worst) subjects and those unusual school dinners including “pink pudding”!
Amongst a raft of entertaining stories, the programme reveals that one group of pupils from Scalpay threatened to take the matter of school dinners to the authorities!
Rev. Calum Iain MacLeod, who attended Scalpay school, reminisced: “We got chips which we enjoyed, but we had a huge protest – and almost went to Parliament – to be able to get tomato sauce, but we never did!”
Làithean Sgoile airs on Monday, 8th, 15th and 22nd April at 9pm on BBC ALBA.
