A fault in an underground high-voltage power cable has still to be detected, after 300 properties were left without power late yesterday evening (Thursday June 6th).

The properties in Arnish and Newvalley lost power around 9.30pm and engineers re-routed supplies to restore the last homes around 11.30pm.

But Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) now have 4.5km of moorland to traverse in the search for the fault itself, before it can be fully repaired.

A spokesman for SSEN told welovestornoway.com today (Friday): “We are awaiting the arrival of a test unit from the mainland so that we can locate and repair the fault.

“Customers should have no further interruptions when the repair is carried out, as we were able to switch power to a different route, so the repair itself will not affect customers. SSEN apologises to all affected customers for the inconvenience.
