Dementia awareness week this year runs from yesterday (Monday June 4th) and the theme is making sure no one faces dementia alone.

Alzheimer Scotland Western Isles kicked off their events yesterday with an afternoon Tea and blether at Dun Berisay care home in Balmerino Drive, Stornoway.

Joined by Mod gold medalist Hannah Knight and local musicians the afternoon was filled with Lots of singing, dancing and laughing - with a lovely warm welcome from Dun Berisay care home staff and good cuppa and home baking.

Marion MacInnes, the Service Manager for Alzheimer Scotland Western Isles, said “It was a fantastic afternoon as usual in Dun Berisay. We always enjoy our visit and it is great to catch up with folks that we all know.

"Music and song are so powerful for bringing people together and it is so wonderful to see everyone happy and enjoying each others company”

There are over 90,000 people in Scotland living with dementia and although many people are living well with dementia many people and their families still do not have access to the information and support that they need.
