Back Football and Recreation Club (BFRC) will be celebrating International Women’s Day through a weeklong series of events in March.

After successfully applying to the Big Lottery Fund’s Celebrate programme BFRC has been awarded £5,000, which will be used to host a Disco Divas party for all the family, a “Celebrating our Women” art exhibition, a coffee morning and Women’s Conference.

“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate International Women’s Day in such a big way and involve the whole community.” Explained Terri Davies, Sport and Community Project Coordinator at Back Football and Recreation Club.

“While the conference is intended as a treat for women aged14+, the whole community are invited to come together to celebrate our women through the art exhibition, coffee morning and the family disco.”

The celebrations start with a family party on Saturday 4th March 7pm. There will be food and as the title “Disco Divas” suggests lots of dancing to music from some of the greatest female artists. Tickets for the party are free but limited, so get yours now from Back Shop.

The art exhibition features the work of local female artists and includes painting, sculpture, photography and crafts. The exhibition is open to the public from Thursday 9th – Saturday 11th March. On Friday 10th there will also be a coffee morning, so guests visiting the exhibition can stop and have some tea and cake too.

We round off the week with a Women’s Day Conference. A real treat, the conference runs from 9am-5pm. Guests can choose to come for the whole day or just drop in for an hour or two. The day includes guest speakers and scheduled workshops such as: make your own knickers, basic car maintenance, first aid or yoga, but guests can also choose from a range of drop-in activities which do not need to be booked in advance such as printmaking, beauty treatments or life coaching. The whole day is free to attend but as places on the workshops are limited you are advised to book in advance by calling Terri or visiting the website:

Thursday 9th March also sees Cabraich Community Arts visit us with their Women's Open-Mic Nite. The group meets fortnightly in different locations and linking in to our International Women's Day celebrations the group will be coming to Back on Thursday 9th March 7.30-10pm. Why not join them for an evening of fun and laughter. Meet new people, sing, recite a poem, play an instrument, the group is all about making music and chat, showcasing old skills, learning new ones and having fun.
