Stornoway Amenity Trust Christmas Lights Switching On Ceremony
Friday 9th December 6.30-9 pm, Perceval Civic Square
6.20pm Christmas Dash
The Christmas Dash (dress up as any Christmas character!) will take place from 6.20pm from the Lazy Corner on South Beach Quay/Cromwell Street Quay. Participants will run from Lazy Corner out to the Spar Roundabout and back, finishing at Lazy Corner. Prizes will be awarded to the first adult and first primary child, as well as the best dressed Christmas Adult and Christmas primary child who participates in the run. More details coming soon. All money raised from the Christmas Dash will be donated to the Lewis Branch of Cancer Research UK.
Lewis Pipe Band will be in attendance to wow the crowds with some of their award-winning playing.
Award for best shop/hotel Christmas window display will be presented. (Shops and hotels please note the judging will take place on Tuesday 6th December so make sure to have your displays ready!)
The night will also play host to some of our fantastic local dancers from various groups.
The George Newhall Shield will be presented to the individual or group that has done the most to promote Stornoway in 2016.
The switching on of the lights will be done by by Alice Macmillan. multi-prizewinner at the National Mòd 2016, and the Christmas Message will be given by Mr Iain Macmillian, Principal of Lews Castle College UHI.
Christmas music will be provided by the Lewis and Harris Junior Concert Band, who will lead the cèilidh dancing in the Civic Square. There will also be carol singing to join in on!
The fair will be in the Fisherman's Car Park and Santa will be in Pointers.
