Stornoway’s coastguard helicopter R948 was sent to meet the cruise ship Marco Polo yesterday afternoon (Monday May 13th) to evacuate a passenger who had fallen ill.

The helicopter was called to a position 30 miles west of Barra after the woman was reported sick and in need of hospital treatment, just after 4pm yesterday.

She was lifted from the deck and flown to Raigmore Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

The helicopter returned to base in Stornoway at 9pm.
