The CalMac ferry Isle of Lewis was met by emergency teams at Castlebay on Saturday (April 20th), after a passenger was injured during the crossing from Oban.

Stornoway Coastguard operations centre received a call at 4.45pm from the skipper of the Barra-bound MV Isle of Lewis requesting medical assistance, after a 77-year-old woman fell on board the ferry and fractured her wrist.

Castlebay Coastguard Rescue Team members manned the pier and helped transfer the woman to a waiting ambulance, after which she was taken to St Brendan’s Hospital for further medical attention.

Extension, Castlebay

Fiona Ferguson of The Sheiling, Castlebay, has applied for planning permission to build a lean-to property to the gable end of the house at The Sheiling, Castlebay.

New house build, Northbay

Theresa Irving of Ultima Thule, Bayherivagh, Northbay has applied for planning permission to build a house complete with septic tank and new access at 10 Bayherivagh, Northbay.

The house is to consist of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen/dining area, lounge and utility room. 


The UK Government’s Seasonal Workers Pilot scheme to be extended to include the fishing industry.
