Rally Hebrides is dropping the planned 'turbine road' stages (seen above in 2015)  from this year's event, it was announced tonight (Tuesday August 15).

But local quarry and construction firm I A & C Maciver has stepped in to help the fund-raising event, being held on Friday August 18th and Saturday August 19th.

Organisers Lewis Car Club said tonight:"Due to unforeseen construction delays on the Pentland Road Windfarm site we are unfortunately no longer able to run this stage of the rally.

"We have been in talks with the windfarm operators and the construction team and have agreed that we are not able to hold this stage and be comfortable that the safety of their workforce and Rally Hebrides competitors can be ensured.

"Thus, the Turbines stages 4 and 5 have been withdrawn from the 2017 Rally Hebrides. This is clearly very disappointing for all involved but we have already had very positive talks with the owners to have this stage back for next year.

"As a result of this. we have a brand new stage for you!

"Replacing the Turbines stage will be The Quarry stage. This will be run at I A and C Maciver's quarry behind the car club track (at Creed Business Park).

"All times remain the same. The only changes will be for anyone that was planning on using the second set of busses leaving the Creed Park that would have been heading to Turbines. These will now leave the Creed Park after the Quarry stage to take you to Arnish. We will have plenty marshals there to direct you.

"A huge thank you from all at Lewis Car Club and Macmillan Cancer Support goes to I A and C Maciver for all their help at such short notice."
